Give This to Your Applicants Before an Interview

Updated: Nov 28, 2022

Doing an interview is always nerve-wracking, and the job people land might make or break their career path.

Sometimes candidates who are very compatible with the company and would make a great hire fail to shine in interviews.

Here are some tips that could help applicants feel more comfortable and successful when they are being interviewed:

  • It’s a two-way street.

Filling a position is something that requires both sides of the acquisition to be satisfied with. Think about what’s important to you in your potential future workplace, and what you want to ask to make sure these conditions are met and no unpleasant surprises will occur after you have already started.

  • Do your homework.

Besides thinking about what you would want to ask your potential employer, think about what they might want to know. A candidate who learns about the company they are interviewed for knows the general lines of their product, the ecosystem they are in, and thinks of the value they would bring to the company - will get extra credit for doing so.

  • Take care of yourself beforehand.

Striving to perform at your best is not a bad idea. Make sure you get enough sleep the night before so you are fresh, energetic, and focused during the entire interview. Eat a healthy snack or meal that will keep your energy levels and won’t let hunger or lack of vitality disturb your target.

  • Talk about what you gained, not what you did.

When you discuss the achievements you accomplished at your previous place of work and not only your responsibilities - your true value comes out. The interviewer is much more likely to comprehend the benefits you have and the ways you can drive success through your previous achievements.

  • First impressions do count.

Being on time or a few minutes early is crucial for first impressions. Plan your journey ahead to make sure you are prompt - look at public transportation routes or search for places to park in advance to avoid any last-minute muddle. Remember to pick out an appropriate but also a comfortable outfit that you feel good in, and let that echo through calm and confident body language throughout the interview.

Which questions should candidates ask their potential employers?

  • Can you tell me more about the team I will be working with?

  • How do you describe the day-to-day responsibilities that come with the job?

  • Are there any opportunities for training and development within the company?

  • What is the company culture like?

  • Where do you think the company is heading in the next couple of years?
